NOSHAHR, Iran, Dec 27: Iran’s Navy will soon host a trilateral naval drill in the oceanic region, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani announced on Friday. The exercise aims to strengthen regional and international cooperation, with plans to expand participation to additional countries in the future.

Speaking to reporters in the northern city of Noshahr, Irani said the exact date and list of participating states have not yet been finalized. He highlighted that Iran’s Navy has actively taken part in 12 international events over the past nine months, ranging from scientific and skill-based activities to regional and extra-regional military exercises.

Irani noted that the Navy’s 103rd flotilla of warships is currently en route to the location of the upcoming international drill, expected to take place within the next week. He added that the Navy also plans exercises in neighboring countries and in international waters.

Emphasizing maritime safety and environmental protection, the commander stated, “Serious focus on preserving the marine environment is among our priorities,” and assured that the Navy will continue to safeguard sailors and maritime security.

Iran has been increasing its overseas naval presence, with the 103rd and 104th task groups currently on missions toward South Africa. One of the fleets is tasked with escorting commercial vessels, while the 103rd flotilla will participate in a joint exercise with BRICS countries.

In August 2023, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted that Iran’s naval presence in remote waters such as the Pacific and Atlantic oceans enhances the country’s national security.
