Pakatan Harapan Sets Fresh Push for Institutional Reforms After Sabah Polls, Says Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan will intensify its focus on accelerating institutional reforms in the wake of its performance in the recent Sabah state election, says Pakatan communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 9), Fahmi said the coalition’s Presidential Council, chaired by Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, met earlier in the day and agreed that several priority reforms must be driven forward with greater urgency.

“The leadership has reviewed the Sabah results comprehensively and concluded that aspects of institutional reform require sharper focus and stronger execution,” Fahmi said.

He added that the council also discussed government governance issues, the people’s economic realities, and the status of manifesto pledges since Pakatan assumed federal power three years ago.

As part of its renewed direction, Pakatan Harapan will hold a full coalition convention in the first quarter of 2026, which will define reform priorities and shape the nation’s direction for the next two years.

The push for recalibration comes after the PKR Central Leadership Council convened a special meeting on Monday (Dec 8) at Seri Perdana to analyze post-election dynamics and election-seat outcomes for both PKR and Pakatan Harapan. Party leaders are currently consolidating feedback and findings that will be presented at the next council session.

In the November Sabah polls, PKR contested 12 seats and secured only one—Melalap—won by Datuk Jamawi Ja’afar. Pakatan Harapan, which contested 23 seats overall, did not secure additional wins from its partner coalitions.

Fahmi stressed that the coalition sees the election outcome as a signal to reinforce and fast-track reform commitments, ensuring the government remains focused on long-term democratic strengthening and effective governance.
