ALOR SETAR, Nov 27: The Kedah State Education Department has taken firm disciplinary action against a group of students involved in a violent altercation at a school earlier this week. The students have been suspended and subsequently expelled following a thorough investigation.
In a statement, the department said it viewed the incident as a serious breach of school discipline, stressing that authorities have also taken action in accordance with the law.
“The school has completed a detailed internal investigation. Strict punishments through suspension and expulsion have been imposed on the students involved.
“The department stresses that there will be no compromise on matters concerning bullying, violence, or misconduct among students,” the statement read.
The department further urged all educational institutions in Kedah to strictly follow existing disciplinary procedures, prioritize student safety, and implement early preventive measures to ensure the well-being of students and staff.
The case gained public attention after a Form Four student was found unconscious in a school dormitory toilet on Monday (Nov 24), believed to have been assaulted by several schoolmates.
Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan confirmed that four male students, aged 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with the incident. One of them, a 16-year-old, has been remanded for three days to assist in the investigation.
Police investigations into the assault are ongoing.
