Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured Malaysians that he is keeping a close watch on the rapidly worsening flood situation back home, despite being on an official visit to Kenya.

In a Facebook update on Monday (Nov 24), Anwar said the floods had already impacted more than 15,000 people across seven states, prompting a large-scale mobilization of government resources.

According to the Prime Minister, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and all relevant emergency response units have been fully deployed to flood-hit regions to rescue those still stranded and ensure timely delivery of aid.

He added that the Special Malaysia Search and Rescue Team (SMART) has been dispatched to Kelantan, currently the most severely affected state. The team is also on standby for deployment to other states to speed up rescue operations and emergency support on the ground.

The government has also activated Skuad Ihsan Madani, which has been sent to all affected areas to help manage the needs and welfare of evacuees at nearly 100 temporary evacuation centers established across the seven states.

Anwar urged residents in flood-prone and high-risk zones to remain alert and comply with evacuation instructions issued by authorities.

“The safety of your families must come first,” he said, emphasizing the need for immediate evacuation when directed.

The Prime Minister also extended prayers for the strength, resilience, and protection of all flood victims during this challenging period.

“In this difficult and testing time, I pray that all flood victims are granted strength and safeguarded from harm. May we navigate through this ordeal together,” he said.
