Student Stabbing Case: Teenage Girl Sent To Hospital Bahagia

KUALA LANGAT: A 15-year-old teenage girl was charged at the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court here on Friday with one count of attempting to murder her friend in a stabbing incident at a secondary school in Banting here.

No plea was recorded from the juvenile accused pending the girl’s psychiatric evaluation report.

The closed-door proceedings before Magistrate Maslinda Selamat were also attended by the accused’s family members.

However, the court allowed the prosecution’s application for the teenager, who wore a black hooded shirt, to undergo a mental evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak.

According to the charge, the Form Three student was accused of attempting to murder a 15-year-old female student by using a knife, causing injuries and having the intention to cause death.

The offence was allegedly committed at the school at 9.50 am on July 6.

The charge was made under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of 20 years, if convicted.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Yazid agreed for the teenager, who is reported to have autism, to undergo a mental evaluation under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court set the next mention for August 11.

Media personnel who arrived earlier were not allowed to enter the courtroom to follow the prosecution proceedings as the case involves a juvenile accused.

Earlier, media reported that a 15-year-old female student was injured after she was believed to have been stabbed 16 times with a knife by her schoolmate at the school canteen during recess.

In the incident at 9.30 am, the victim sustained injuries to several parts of her body including the lungs and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
