Trump Praises Anwar for Mediating Historic Cambodia–Thailand Peace Deal

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26: United States President Donald Trump today expressed his deep appreciation to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for successfully mediating the historic peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

The signing of the “Delivering Peace Cambodia–Thailand Peace Deal” took place in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough for the region.

President Trump, who is attending the summit, lauded Anwar’s leadership and diplomatic skill, describing him as “a remarkable and historic figure” for his role in bridging the decades-long rift between the two neighboring nations.

“Both leaders from Thailand and Cambodia have great respect for one another, but Prime Minister Anwar played a vital role in bringing them to the negotiation table here in Kuala Lumpur,” Trump said before witnessing the signing ceremony.

The peace deal was jointly signed by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, signaling a new era of cooperation and stability in mainland Southeast Asia.

Trump noted that Anwar’s mediation efforts exemplified Malaysia’s growing influence as ASEAN Chair and reaffirmed the United States’ support for ASEAN-led initiatives to promote peace and unity in the region.

Also present at the ceremony were senior ASEAN officials, diplomats, and delegates from the 47th ASEAN Summit.
