KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26: U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Malaysia this morning to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings.
Air Force One touched down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10:05 a.m. local time, where Trump was warmly received by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In accordance with protocol, President Trump was greeted with a Guard of Honor and an official welcoming ceremony. The two leaders held a brief courtesy meeting, during which they discussed strengthening the ASEAN–United States strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, “We believe that the cooperation between ASEAN and the United States will open new horizons for peace, security, and economic growth.”
President Trump thanked Anwar for Malaysia’s hospitality and leadership, saying, “Malaysia’s warmth and vision reflect its vital role in fostering stability and progress across Southeast Asia.”
Later this afternoon, both leaders will participate in the 13th ASEAN–United States Summit, where discussions will focus on regional security, the digital economy, trade expansion, and Indo-Pacific cooperation.
Diplomatic observers have described Trump’s visit as a key step in revitalizing ties between Washington and ASEAN.
As part of his official program, President Trump is scheduled to visit Malaysia’s National Mosque tomorrow, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Malaysian government.
