Kuala Lumpur, Oct 25: United States President Donald Trump will make an official visit to Malaysia from October 26 to 27, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in conjunction with the 13th ASEAN–United States Summit and the 20th East Asia Summit.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) confirmed that this will be President Trump’s first visit to Southeast Asia since assuming office as the 47th President of the United States in January 2025.
During the visit, Prime Minister Anwar and President Trump are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on October 26 to discuss efforts to deepen cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment, defense and security, and people-to-people relations.
“Both leaders will explore ways to enhance collaboration under the Malaysia–United States Comprehensive Partnership,” said the statement.
The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern and witness the signing of several agreements related to trade and security cooperation.
Wisma Putra said the visit is anticipated to further strengthen Malaysia–US ties, paving the way for a new chapter of strategic and future-focused engagement between the two nations.
“This visit underscores the mutual commitment to advancing shared prosperity, peace, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region,” the ministry added.
The United States remains one of Malaysia’s largest trading partners and investors, with total trade amounting to RM324.91 billion (US$71.3 billion) in 2024. Bilateral relations between the two nations have remained strong and multifaceted since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1957.
President Trump’s visit is expected to reaffirm the importance of ASEAN–US cooperation, particularly in advancing regional economic integration, digital innovation, and strategic security partnerships.
