KUWAIT / ISTANBUL, Oct 21: Türkiye and Kuwait on Tuesday signed four landmark agreements aimed at boosting cooperation in the areas of maritime transport, energy, investment, and seafarer certification, marking a new phase in the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The signing ceremony took place at Bayan Palace in Kuwait City following official talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
A key outcome of the meeting was the Maritime Transport Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates between Türkiye’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry and Kuwait’s Interior Ministry.
The documents were signed by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Youssef Saud Al-Sabah, paving the way for closer cooperation in maritime logistics and labor mobility.
In the energy sector, Türkiye and Kuwait signed an MoU on cooperation in electricity, water, and renewable energy development.
The agreement was formalized by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Kuwaiti Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Minister Subaih Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Muhaizem, emphasizing both nations’ commitment to sustainable energy collaboration and green technology.
Another significant deal focused on direct investment incentives, underscoring the two countries’ shared goal of expanding economic ties.
The MoU was signed between Türkiye’s Presidential Investment and Finance Office, represented by Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu, and the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), represented by Sheikh Meshal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the KDIPA Director General.
The agreement is expected to encourage greater cross-border investments and enhance private sector cooperation between the two economies.
President Erdoğan was welcomed to Kuwait earlier in the day with an official ceremony before holding bilateral and inter-delegation meetings with the Kuwaiti Emir.
In a symbolic gesture of friendship, Erdoğan presented Sheikh Mishal with a model of Türkiye’s homegrown electric car, Togg, reflecting Türkiye’s growing technological and industrial capabilities.
Kuwait marks the first stop of President Erdoğan’s three-day Gulf tour, which also includes Oman and Qatar. After concluding his visit to Kuwait, Erdoğan departed for Doha, where he is expected to discuss further cooperation with Qatari leaders.
The newly signed agreements highlight a renewed commitment to deepening political, economic, and technological collaboration between Türkiye and Kuwait, as both nations continue to strengthen their partnership across key strategic sectors.
