Protests in South Korea Against Trump’s Climate Remarks, Thousands Rally for Stronger Action

Seoul, South Korea (VoM): Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of the South Korean capital demanding urgent action against climate change while voicing sharp criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks dismissing global warming as “the greatest hoax.”

Protesters from all walks of life, including students, workers, and environmental activists, marched through Seoul’s main avenues carrying banners and placards. Chants called for stronger climate policies and denounced Trump’s comments, which they said undermine scientific consensus and global efforts to address the crisis.

Many participants wore green clothing and face masks as a symbol of environmental protection. Organizers noted that similar rallies were held in smaller cities across South Korea on the same day.

“By denying the climate crisis, Trump is destroying our future,” said one university student who joined the march. “We cannot remain silent.”

Environmental groups stressed that Trump’s statements not only harm U.S. credibility but also weaken the global climate movement. They pointed out that the United States is one of the world’s largest carbon emitters, yet its leadership continues to downplay the urgency of the crisis.

Protesters also urged the South Korean government to take a stronger stance internationally and accelerate the country’s transition to renewable energy. “Current policies are not enough,” organizers said, calling for immediate and decisive reforms.

Analysts argue that the demonstrations go beyond environmental concerns, serving as a broader political message against Trump’s policies and climate denialism worldwide.
