Kuala Lumpur, Sept 13 (VoM): The Immigration Department has reminded MyPR cardholders that they are required to carry their original passports or valid travel documents when traveling to Sabah or Sarawak, whether for work, tourism, or personal visits.
The MyPR card, also known as the red identity card, is issued by the National Registration Department (JPN) to non-Malaysian individuals who have been granted Permanent Resident (PR) status. Authorities clarified that MyPR serves as a personal identification document, not a travel document.
According to the department, failure to present a valid passport at entry points into Sabah or Sarawak may result in travelers being denied entry or even ordered to return by immigration officers.
“MyPR is an identification document, not a substitute for a passport. Plan your travel wisely, bring your passport, and avoid unnecessary complications,” the department advised.
This regulation also applies to stateless MyPR holders, who must present a Certificate of Identity (Surat Akuan Pengenalan SAP) in place of a passport.
The Immigration Department emphasized that proper travel planning is essential to avoid difficulties and ensure smooth entry into East Malaysia.
