Iran Calls for More Talks on IAEA Inspection Framework

DUBAI, Sept 10 (VoM): Iran has said that further discussions are required with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to finalize the scope of nuclear inspections, stressing that a newly announced agreement does not automatically grant inspectors full access to its facilities.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told reporters on Wednesday that Tehran views the deal reached with the U.N. watchdog this week as a step forward but not yet a binding arrangement.

“This agreement in itself does not guarantee access. More talks are necessary to clarify how inspections will be conducted,” he said.

On Tuesday, Iran and the IAEA announced an understanding to resume inspections at several nuclear sites, including facilities previously struck by U.S. and Israeli operations. However, details of the arrangement remain vague.

Tehran has also warned that the agreement will be void if Western powers move to reimpose international sanctions.

The IAEA has been pressing Iran for months to allow greater monitoring of its nuclear activities, particularly as tensions over uranium enrichment and regional security remain high.

While the latest deal has been described as a cautious breakthrough, diplomats say its success depends on both sides reaching consensus on technical procedures and ensuring the process is shielded from geopolitical disputes.
