LANGKAWI, Sept 3 : Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the ASEAN Haze-Free Roadmap 2023–2030 as a key framework to guide regional efforts toward achieving a haze-free ASEAN by 2030.

The commitment was highlighted at the 20th Committee Meeting (COM-20) under the Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP), chaired by Malaysia through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025.

In a statement, NRES said the roadmap will help ensure that member states’ actions are more coordinated, particularly in strengthening preparedness for forest and peatland fires and advancing sustainable management of natural resources.

“Through comprehensive prevention, all ASEAN countries are committed to strengthening the enforcement of laws on open burning, continuous monitoring in fire-prone areas, and promoting sustainable land-use practices at both national and regional levels,” the ministry said.

The two-day meeting, held in Langkawi, will also deliberate on the ASEAN Transboundary Haze Pollution Control Budget, including the status of contributions, fund utilization, and regional progress in implementing the AATHP.

ASEAN member states also welcomed international support and cooperation in combating haze, including access to technical expertise, modern technology such as high-resolution satellites, and the sharing of best practices in fire prevention and management.
