BEIJING, Sept 3: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined Chinese President Xi Jinping and 26 other world leaders on Wednesday at Tiananmen Square for a massive Victory Day Parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Anwar, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived at the square at 8:30 a.m., where they were welcomed by Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry, among the high-profile guests in attendance were Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and Myanmar’s acting President Min Aung Hlaing.

Tens of thousands of spectators filled Tiananmen Square, with the commemoration broadcast live across China.

Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered an address before reviewing the parade.

The parade showcased more than 10,000 troops, over 100 aircraft, and hundreds of ground armaments arranged in formations modeled on a wartime command system. For the first time, China unveiled new cutting-edge weaponry, including unmanned intelligence systems, counter-drone technology, hypersonic missiles, directed-energy weapons, electronic jamming equipment, and other strategic assets—underscoring Beijing’s growing military prowess.
