Lavrov Criticizes Europe for Delayed Recognition of Palestine

MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sharply criticized European countries on Friday, accusing them of dragging their feet on recognizing Palestine amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

Speaking at a press briefing, Lavrov warned that Europe’s hesitation risks rendering such recognition meaningless given the escalating humanitarian crisis.

“By the time Europe finally decides in two months to recognize Palestine, there will be nothing left to recognize,” Lavrov said.

The comments come as several European Union member states continue internal debates over whether and when to grant official recognition of Palestine as a state, with some signaling potential moves later this year.

Russia, which has long positioned itself as a supporter of Palestinian statehood, has repeatedly accused Western powers of failing to act decisively to end the conflict and prevent further civilian suffering in Gaza.
