Russian Strike Destroys American-Owned Factory in Ukraine’s Mukachevo

KYIV: A Russian missile strike has destroyed a U.S.-owned manufacturing plant in Mukachevo, western Ukraine, with the fire raging for more than 32 hours before being brought under control, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.

The facility, operated by the American company Flex, was known for producing coffee machines and other electronic appliances. However, the unusually long blaze has fueled speculation that the plant may have been repurposed to store Western-supplied weapons and equipment for the Ukrainian military.

Russian state media and military commentators claimed the attack was a “precision strike” targeting a covert weapons depot, while Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed the allegations. Local emergency services reported no immediate casualties but said the damage to the site was “total.”

The strike in Mukachevo marks one of the deepest Russian attacks into western Ukraine in recent months, far from the active eastern frontlines. Analysts say it could signal Moscow’s intent to target Ukraine’s logistical and industrial base supporting the war effort.

The United States has not issued an official statement regarding the destruction of the Flex plant, though Washington has previously condemned Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure.
