KUALA LUMPUR: Immigration officials detained 27 foreign nationals in a raid at a nightclub along Jalan Sultan Ismail early today. The establishment, known for its exclusive clientele and high session rates of RM10,000 to RM16,000, only accepted members with bank accounts exceeding RM100,000.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff revealed that the raid, part of Operation Gegar, began at approximately 2 am on Friday. This operation followed public complaints about suspicious activities at the nightclub.

“During the raid, we checked 50 individuals, including both patrons and staff, and detained 27 foreigners,” Wan Mohammed Saupee told reporters. The detainees included eight women from China and one from Kazakhstan, and the men comprised nine from China, five from Bangladesh, three from Pakistan, and one from Cambodia. Offenses included misuse of visitor passes and lacking valid documentation.

Earlier in the morning, around 12:15 am, Immigration officials also conducted Operation Pintu, targeting an apartment complex in Sentul. A total of 36 personnel were involved in this operation across 25 apartment units.

“We inspected 102 people and arrested 38 foreigners, including 29 men and nine women. The offenses found included overstaying and lacking valid documentation,” Wan Mohammed Saupee reported. This operation followed two weeks of surveillance and was prompted by public tips.

Checks indicated that the detainees were employed as construction workers, security guards, maids, and in various service roles. Authorities are urging the public not to hire or shelter illegal immigrants.
