12-year-old boy driving a car with siblings charged today

KUALA LUMPUR: A father and his son, who was driving a car with two younger siblings in a residential area, will be charged in Sepang Court today after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to Berita Harian, Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the 53-year-old father would face charges under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“His 12-year-old son will be charged under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable under Section 39(5) of the same Act,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Earlier reports indicated that the police had questioned the father of the boy who was driving the car with his two younger siblings in the Taman Putra Impiana area in Puchong.

Wan Kamarul reported that the man had attended the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Sepang District Police Headquarters to give a statement at 11:30 PM on July 29.

Previously, a video lasting one minute and 49 seconds went viral, showing a woman stopping a Perodua Viva car driven by a teenage boy, with two children also in the vehicle.

The video showed the car being driven at a relatively high speed over a bump in front of a house before being instructed by the woman to stop.
