According to the Yemeni Armed Forces, they stopped a joint attack by the US and UK by shooting down a US F-18 fighter jet and making other planes leave Yemeni airspace.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokeswoman for the Yemeni army, released a statement on Sunday. Earlier that same day, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that a fighter jet had been shot down over the Red Sea in what it called a case of “friendly fire.”

Saree stated, “We stopped the joint US-British attack and hit the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and a few of its destroyers.”

He also stated that the operation used eight cruise missiles and seventeen drones. The attack made the USS Harry Truman pull back, he said.

A spokesman for the Yemeni army said that most of the enemy planes left Yemen’s airspace and went to international areas in the Red Sea to try to protect the USS Harry Truman after it was attacked.
Also, Saree said that during the action, Yemeni forces shot down an American F-18 while enemy destroyers were trying to fight Yemeni drones and missiles.

He also said that more would be done to protect Yemen and help Palestine, and he reaffirmed that the country’s military forces were ready to face any future threats from the US, UK, and Israel.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces warn the Israeli and American enemy against aggression on Yemen and that the Yemeni Armed Forces will use their full right to defend Yemen and continue to support the Palestinian people until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted,” he added.

CENTCOM said in a statement early Sunday that an F/A-18F Super Hornet was shot down by mistake and that both US Navy pilots on board were safe.

A CENTCOM statement said that the guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64) fired on the Super Hornet, which was attached to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). It was flying over the Red Sea at the time.

Since October 7, 2023, when Israel started its war on Gaza, Yemen has said it will always back Palestine’s fight against occupation.
A series of attacks by the Yemeni Armed Forces on Israel are part of a larger plan to get back at them.

A strict maritime blockade of Israeli shipping has also been part of the effort. This means that ships can’t get to Israeli ports.

Over 107,627 Palestinians have been hurt and killed by Israel in Gaza so far. Most of the people killed were women and children.
