UNITED NATIONS: The United States and Saudi Arabia, along with several key Arab and Muslim-majority nations, have jointly urged the UN Security Council to move quickly in adopting a US-backed resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan for Gaza.
In a joint statement released on Friday, the countries the US, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Türkiye expressed unified support for the draft resolution currently under discussion at the Security Council.
The statement emphasized the need for the resolution’s “swift adoption,” describing the plan as a critical step toward stabilizing the humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza.
The diplomatic push comes as Russia has introduced a separate, competing draft text on the Gaza situation, potentially setting up a diplomatic showdown within the Council.
Negotiations are ongoing, with member states working to bridge differences and reach a consensus on how to advance peace efforts in the war-torn enclave.
