KUALA LUMPUR, June 24, 2025 — Ukraine has urged Malaysia to enhance its humanitarian assistance, highlighting urgent needs in medical supplies, rescue operations, and post-conflict recovery support.

Denys Mykhailiuk, Chargé d’Affaires at the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia, said the most pressing needs include emergency rescue operations, post-war demining, forensic investigations into alleged war crimes, as well as engineering and energy equipment.

“We require various forms of aid, but our immediate priority is emergency response — field hospitals, bleeding control kits, surgical equipment, and machinery related to engineering and energy,” he stated.

He also emphasized the value of Malaysian-made machinery for rebuilding critical infrastructure.

“To reconstruct roads and bridges and clear rubble, we urgently need bulldozers, excavators, trucks, and other heavy machinery. Substantial international assistance is vital — Malaysia’s involvement would be highly appreciated,” he said.

Malaysia’s Medical Support

In February 2023, the Malaysian government, through the Ministry of Health, donated RM227,984 worth of medical supplies to Ukraine. These included Levothyroxine Sodium tablets, Fentanyl Citrate injections, Amikacin, and Propofol.

Strategic Role for Malaysia in Recovery

Mykhailiuk added that Ukraine sees Malaysia as a key early partner in its fast-track recovery plan, especially in infrastructure rebuilding once the war ends. He also noted Malaysia’s potential role as a gateway for Ukrainian goods into the ASEAN market due to its developed port facilities and logistics network.

Ongoing Impact of the War

Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022, more than 13,341 civilians have lost their lives and over 32,744 have been injured, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Ukraine continues to call on the international community for broader support and hopes Malaysia will take on a larger role in both humanitarian relief and future reconstruction efforts.
