Trump Gives Iran Last Chance Before Being Destroyed

WASHINGTON: United States (US) President Donald Trump said on Monday that negotiations with Iran are still ongoing despite being denied by Tehran and stated that the Islamic Republic is facing a last chance before being destroyed.

Trump, when speaking to reporters at the White House, said he agreed to continue negotiations with Iran at the request of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and several other countries.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday denied that negotiations with Washington are ongoing but Trump insisted otherwise.

“We are negotiating now,” he said.

“This is their last chance to sign a good document.

“I want to give them every last chance before they are destroyed,” he added.

The negotiations are focused on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which according to Trump could happen as early as tomorrow, and the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear programme but he said it might take some time.

Washington and Tehran have been at war since 28 February, when the US and Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran, although several months of fluctuating diplomacy have created a period of relative calm.

More than five months later, Iran is still capable of launching missiles and drones towards US targets and its allies in the region, besides still maintaining a stockpile of enriched uranium.
