KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (VoM): More than 10,000 traffic notices were issued during a three-day enforcement under Ops PUU (Operation for Law Compliance) across the capital city.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said a total of 10,036 notices were issued between Sept 16 and 18.

Of this number, 8,006 notices came from daily operations, 1,330 notices from integrated operations, and 700 notices under the Ops Didik program, which focuses on community education.

The highest recorded offense was traffic obstruction with 3,559 notices. Other violations included failing to obey traffic lights (2,326 notices), stopping in the yellow box (525 notices), and crossing the white line at traffic lights (470 notices).

In total, 9,508 notices were issued to vehicle users and 528 to pedestrians.

Motorcyclists accounted for the majority of offenses with 4,578 notices, followed by car drivers (4,353), taxi drivers (219), van drivers (207), and lorry drivers (146).

Additional violations included improper vehicle registration numbers (224 cases); dirty, blurred, or fancy plate numbers (458 cases); not wearing seatbelts (408 cases); motorcyclists without helmets (32 cases); and unauthorized motorcycle modifications (199 cases).

Datuk Mohamed Usuf stressed that Ops PUU, launched on Sept 6, prioritizes an advocacy and education-based approach to encourage compliance with minor traffic rules, rather than issuing summonses immediately.

“The campaign aims to raise awareness among road users and cultivate responsible behavior on the roads,” he added.
