Three foreign plantation workers died in a farm tractor accident in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Three foreign workers, an Indonesian man, and two Filipino women were killed in a bizarre accident on Friday when their farm tractor crashed down a ravine in a Beluran plantation region.

The tragedy occurred about 6 a.m. on Friday (June 28), when the three victims, together with four other plantation workers, were on their way to work in the vehicle when the driver lost control of the machine while passing a steep road on Jalan Sapi Nangoh.

The 28-year-old Indonesian and the two ladies, ages 28 and 42, were murdered on the scene, while the tractor operator, a 29-year-old Indonesian man, and three other female victims, all Filipinos aged 22 to 45, were seriously injured.

Beluran OCPD Superintendent Hasan Majid confirmed the case, saying investigations are being taken out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by irresponsible or dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, at 7.23pm, the Fire and Rescue Department was informed to a crash involving six casualties in a car and a three-tonne lorry on Batu 11, Jalan Keningau Sook.

“There were five victims in the car who were all sent to the hospital by ambulance before the firemen arrived, while the injured lorry driver was treated by the emergency responders at the site.”He was subsequently transported to the hospital in the emergency responders’ car for additional treatment.

No other information about the victims was obtained.

“The operation concluded at 8.11 p.m.,” stated the Department spokesperson.
