‘Thank You, Kak Hasmah, for All Your Kindness’ – Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali as a motherly figure who treated everyone with warmth and affection.

In a post on his Threads account, Anwar said he and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were present to pay their final respects to Dr Siti Hasmah.

“Kak Hasmah was a motherly figure whose gentleness and affection we will always remember, as well as a friend and close companion from years gone by.

“It is certainly difficult for both of us to come to terms with the fact that she is now gone, especially as every beautiful moment we shared with her comes flooding back to our deepest memories.

“The nation will therefore continue to remember Kak Hasmah’s contributions and service. In the memories of many, she was a motherly figure who treated everyone with affection and had the ability to make each person feel close to her and appreciated,” he wrote.

He and his wife also prayed that former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would remain strong in facing this difficult time, continue to be blessed with good health and always be surrounded by the love of his family.

“May Allah SWT forgive the late Dr Hasmah, accept all her good deeds and service, and place her among His faithful and righteous servants.

“Thank you too, Kak Hasmah, for all your kindness to us. Our prayers and memories will certainly accompany you on your final journey. Al-Fatihah,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar announced that Dr Siti Hasmah would be accorded state funeral honours following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.

He was reported as saying that he had instructed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman to assist with the funeral arrangements.

Anwar had also earlier paid tribute to Dr Hasmah, saying that her service and contributions to the country, particularly her charitable work and concern for the people’s well-being, would always be remembered.

Dr Hasmah, 100, passed away at IJN at 9.20am today. Her passing was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.

She was laid to rest at Pusara Negara, Precinct 20, Putrajaya, following funeral prayers at Masjid As-Syarif, Taman Sungai Besi Indah, Serdang, this afternoon.
