Hasmah laid to rest at Heroes’ Mausoleum

PUTRAJAYA: Dr Hasmah Ali, the wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum in Precinct 20 here at about 6.40pm today.

Her burial was conducted with a State Funeral Ceremony for a National Figure, an honour accorded by the government as a mark of respect for the former prime minister’s wife.

The ceremony was led by Ahmad Saufi Md Isa of Army Headquarters and involved eight military and police officers.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Jalur Gemilang to Mahathir by chairman of the Official Government Ceremonies Council, Abd Shukor Mahmood.

Imam Besar Masjid Putra Muhamad Zakuwa Rodzali later led the recitation of the talkin and prayers.

Earlier, Hasmah’s remains were taken to Masjid As-Syarif in Taman Sungai Besi Indah, Seri Kembangan, where funeral rites were performed before she was prayed over after Asar.

Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at about 9.20am today, aged 100.

She is survived by seven children from her 70-year marriage to Mahathir.
