Thailand is interested in establishing a digital collaboration with Malaysia
Thailand has expressed a desire to collaborate with Malaysia in the field of digital governance in order to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with ASEAN member states to enhance the region’s quality of life.
“In the realms of government digitalization and cloud technology, the Malaysian government has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in the implementation of digital government initiatives.” In a bilateral encounter with Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, Prasert expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Malaysia in these sectors to enhance the quality of life for Thai citizens.
The 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) took place in this location on Thursday, January 16, concurrently with the bilateral meeting.
Additionally, he commended Malaysia’s advancements in a variety of sectors, such as cybersecurity, gaming, animation, and the startup ecosystem, as well as digital or smart city initiatives.
Concurrently, Prasert underscored the significance of ADGMIN as a chance for Thailand to exhibit its digital capabilities and leadership within ASEAN.
Developing digital infrastructure and promoting innovation are indispensable for improving Thailand’s competitiveness, he emphasized.
“This meeting has the potential to be highly beneficial for Thailand, as it will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technology, promote the digital economy, and improve the digital skills of Thai citizens,” he stated. Additionally, it will facilitate digital collaboration with ASEAN member states and dialogue partners.
He also stated that the improvement of cybersecurity and the protection of personal data are still the top priorities, as they are essential for the development of investor confidence and the promotion of sustainable economic growth.
Earlier, the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting, which took place in Bangkok on Thursday, was inaugurated by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Representatives from the 10 ASEAN member states, critical dialogue partners such as China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and India; the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); and representatives from Timor-Leste—a total of over 300 participants—attended the event.
