MUAR: Muar Member of Parliament, Syed Saddiq Syed Abd Rahman, has successfully completed his nearly 170-kilometre Thanksgiving Run, which began in Putrajaya and ended at Laman Maharani here earlier.

Syed Saddiq arrived at approximately 9.15 am after starting the run on July 16.

His arrival was greeted by thousands of Muar residents who had been waiting since 8 am, after Syed Saddiq began the final leg of the run from Simpang Sungai Rambai at 7 am this morning.

Chants of “Hidup Muar, Hidup Muar” and “Tahniah YB” were heard from his supporters.

The final 17-kilometre run this morning took more than two hours before reaching the finishing point.

He continued the run on the final day together with several running groups, including Muo Runner.

The mission began on July 16 from the grounds of the Palace of Justice, Presint 3, Putrajaya, heading to Muar, Johor, passing through Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

Besides carrying a welfare objective to help residents in the Muar parliamentary constituency, the run was also symbolic of Syed Saddiq’s gratitude after going through court proceedings to clear his name.

Funds raised through the run will be channeled to two main initiatives, namely the provision of food baskets to families in need, as well as the purchase of iPads to help students who require access to learning devices.

As of yesterday, the run had successfully raised RM361,848 within two days, surpassing the original target of RM200,000 that was set.

On July 13, the Federal Court acquitted Syed Saddiq of two charges of abetting criminal breach of trust, one charge of misappropriating property, and two money laundering offences involving Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) BERSATU funds.
