Russian-Made Drone Found in Northwestern Türkiye, Investigations Underway

ISTANBUL: Turkish authorities discovered a drone believed to be a Russian-made Orlan-10 reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the northwestern province of Kocaeli on Friday, the Turkish Interior Ministry confirmed.

The drone was located in the Cubuklubala neighborhood of the Izmit district, according to a statement posted by the ministry on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal. Authorities said investigations into the incident are ongoing.

This discovery follows a separate incident earlier this week, when the Turkish National Defense Ministry reported shooting down an out-of-control drone approaching Turkish airspace over the Black Sea. The drone was intercepted in a secure area to prevent any potential harm, the ministry said.

No further details have been released regarding the origin or purpose of the drone found in Kocaeli, and Turkish authorities continue to examine whether it poses any security threats.
