Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Arrives in Cairo Ahead of Russia-Africa Partnership Forum

ISTANBUL/CAIRO: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Cairo on Thursday ahead of the two-day ministerial meeting of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed.

According to the ministry, Lavrov is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with several African counterparts on the sidelines of the forum. The event will bring together the foreign ministers of all African nations, along with heads of the continent’s integration bodies.

“Trade, economic cooperation, and investment will be the key focus of the second ministerial conference,” the ministry stated. Discussions will also review the action plan adopted at the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg in 2023 and develop concrete steps to ensure its full implementation.

The ministry noted that these talks are aimed at preparing for the third Russia-Africa summit in 2026, ensuring a set of tangible achievements and new joint initiatives. The venue for the upcoming summit has not yet been announced.

Lavrov’s visit underscores Russia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen political, economic, and diplomatic ties with African nations, highlighting the growing significance of the Russia-Africa partnership in regional and global affairs.
