RM169,000 Allocated to Upgrade Five Healthcare Facilities in Johor Bahru

JOHOR BAHRU: A total of RM169,000 from the Johor Bahru parliamentary constituency allocation has been channelled to five healthcare facilities to improve patient comfort and ensure smoother delivery of healthcare services.

Economy Minister and Johor Bahru Member of Parliament Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the allocation involved the Tebrau Health Clinic, Majidee Health Clinic, Majidee Maternal and Child Health Clinic, Antoi Rural Clinic and Larkin Health Clinic.

He said the contribution would be used for various improvements, including the installation of air-conditioning units, facility upgrades, painting works and the installation of awnings.

Akmal Nasrullah said the provision of quality public facilities must keep pace with Johor’s economic development, with the state’s economy growing by 8.0 per cent to RM170.9 billion in 2025.

Johor also recorded RM59.4 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026.

In a related development, Akmal Nasrullah said the proposal to build a new Type 2 Majidee Health Clinic had undergone an evaluation process and received approval in principle, subject to funding under Budget 2027.

The proposed development takes into account the current needs of the Majidee Health Clinic, which were also identified during his visit to Johor Bahru on Aug 7.

The Majidee Health Clinic, which has been operating since 1971, serves an area with a population of 198,114 and handles about 600 patients daily.

Currently, outpatient services and maternal and child healthcare services operate from two separate blocks located about 200 metres apart, affecting patient flow and the integrated delivery of healthcare services.

A site for the new clinic has also been identified, with the facility planned as a one-stop centre bringing together outpatient, maternal and child health, dental, pharmacy and laboratory services.

The new facility is also planned to provide space for other services based on future needs.

“The RM169,000 contribution today addresses the immediate needs of the existing facilities. For the Majidee Health Clinic, we are moving towards a more comprehensive long-term solution, subject to Budget 2027,” he said.

According to Akmal Nasrullah, the approach is aimed at ensuring that short-term improvements are implemented alongside long-term healthcare capacity planning to meet the needs of Johor Bahru’s growing population.

The mock cheque presentation ceremony was held at Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee in Johor Bahru and was attended by Johor Bahru District Health Officer Dr Haidar Rizal Toha, clinic personnel, community leaders and members of the local community.
