RM100 Per Sack Durian Concept Attracts Buyers’ Attention

KUANTAN: Fill as much as you can into the provided sack for RM100. That is the unique concept employed by a durian seller in Kampung Balok here, which has caught the attention of fans of the king of fruits.

The trader, Muhammad Azril Syazrin Izani, 31, said that the concept is not merely a marketing gimmick but rather his desire for customers to enjoy durians to their fullest.

He, who has been selling durians for six years, said that the idea came about after he felt pity for parents with many children who had to spend more to buy durians.

“If you buy one or two kilogrammes, it is quite expensive for some people, so I introduced the concept of one sack for only RM100 so that they can bring back more durians for their families.

“Profit or loss is secondary; what matters is that people get to eat and are satisfied,” he said when met at his durian stall located in front of the Balok Parish Mosque here today.

According to Muhammad Azril Syazrin, customers can choose their own durians from the pile and fill them into the provided sack as much as they can fit.

“Besides kampung durians, sometimes we also mix in premium durians such as IOI, Musang King, and Duri Hitam, depending on the current stock.

“If customers are skilled at arranging them in the sack, they can get more than 30 fruits depending on the size of the durians,” he explained.

He informed that the durian supply is obtained from family orchards and suppliers in Jementah, Johor, amounting to up to 15 tonnes per day.

“In addition, I also offer special prices at certain times, ranging from RM8 to RM10 per kilogramme for certain types of durians, as well as RM10 per basket sale. In fact, I also give Musang King durians for free to persons with disabilities (OKU) and pregnant women as a token of appreciation,” he said.
