3-Year-Old Boy’s Foot Run Over by Vehicle Towing Fire Boat During National Day Parade

KUALA TERENGGANU: A three-year-old boy’s excitement while watching security force assets during the National Day celebration turned into a panic when his left foot was run over by a vehicle towing a fire boat in an incident in front of Wisma Persekutuan here on Monday.

In the incident at around 9.45 am, the victim, Che Ku Muhammad Khairul Amir Che Ku Mohd Khairul Azlan, sustained injuries to his left foot after falling when the four-wheel-drive vehicle towing the boat began moving slowly.

The victim’s mother, Puteri Anis Athirah Wan Rosli, 36, from Chendering, said she had come to the celebration venue with her three children because the boy had been excited since leaving home to see the assets of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

“While the vehicle carrying the boat stopped several times in front of Wisma, my seven-year-old daughter, Che Ku Nur Amirah, ran forward to take pictures. My son followed her.

“When a firefighter tried to beckon and gently push him aside for safety before moving off, my son accidentally fell flat, and his foot ended up under the tyre that was starting to roll,” she said when met at the Emergency Department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here on Monday.

Recalling that anxious moment, Puteri Anis Athirah said she herself witnessed the incident happening in the blink of an eye.

“Everything happened too fast, in just a few seconds. I immediately lifted him up. Thankfully, he suffered no internal injuries, did not vomit, and there was no injury to the bones,” she said.

Meanwhile, Puteri Anis Athirah also expressed her appreciation for the concern shown by the police officers at the scene who managed the situation, as well as for helping to escort the ambulance carrying her son to the hospital at around 10.15 am.

“X-ray results showed no broken bones, but the paediatric specialist is still monitoring to ensure my son’s health condition is stable.

“I do not blame the firefighters or any security personnel. They were acting to control safety and the movement of the assets; it’s just that this incident happened unintentionally because of my son’s own excitement to meet his favourite team,” she explained.
