Qabil Irfan Suffers Broken Left Leg

Young national rider, Qabil Irfan Azlan, suffered a broken left leg involving the tibia and fibula bones after being involved in an accident during Free Practice 2 (FP2) of the Moto4 European Cup at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, Spain on Friday.

ZK Racing informed that Qabil is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery for approximately two hours to treat the injury.

The accident occurred when Qabil fell after going through turn five towards turn six, before a rider behind him failed to avoid him and collided with the 14-year-old rider’s leg.

Following the incident, the FP2 session was halted while Qabil was immediately taken to a nearby hospital together with representatives of the MLAV Racing team (MLAV) for further examination and treatment.

“Examination results found that Qabil suffered a fractured left leg involving the tibia and fibula bones. The hospital then provided immediate treatment after confirming that Qabil’s condition was stable,” according to a ZK Racing statement.

Qabil then underwent surgery which took approximately two hours and was completed around 7 am Malaysian time on Saturday.

Currently, the rider remains in hospital for monitoring by doctors before being allowed to return to Malaysia.

ZK Racing said, based on medical advice, Qabil is expected to be allowed to return home after approximately five days, subject to the progress of his health condition.

Throughout the treatment period, Qabil is accompanied by his father, and also receives support from representatives of MLAV Racing, ZK Racing and national rider Hakim Danish, who are at the hospital to ensure all his needs and welfare are properly managed.

MLAV Racing and ZK Racing are also in close contact to ensure that all of Qabil’s medical arrangements proceed smoothly, besides obtaining the latest updates from doctors and his family.

The incident occurred when Qabil was supposed to continue his challenge in Round 5 of the Moto4 European Cup at Ricardo Tormo, which runs from 4 to 6 September.

Before competing in Valencia, Qabil was in sixth position overall in the championship with 61 points after four rounds.

The SIC-GRYD Racing rider arrived in Valencia with confidence after securing two podiums in Round 2 of the Idemitsu Moto4 Asia Cup at the Sepang International Circuit in August, finishing third in both races.

In the Moto4 European Cup competition, Qabil made personal history by achieving his first podium in Round 3 at Jerez, before maintaining sixth position overall with 51 points after the fourth round at Magny-Cours.

On his debut in the European championship in Barcelona, Qabil also showed great potential by finishing fourth after starting from eighth on the grid, thus collecting 13 points.

Heading into the race at Ricardo Tormo, Qabil had previously targeted competing in the front group and collecting important points, acknowledging that the circuit was a new challenge as he did not race there last season.

However, the accident in FP2 has now shifted the main focus to Qabil’s treatment and recovery process.

ZK Racing meanwhile prays that Qabil will continue to be given strength to undergo the recovery process well and return to full health in the near future.

“Any further developments regarding Qabil’s condition will be communicated by ZK Racing based on official information from the medical team and family,” according to the statement.
