KUALA LUMPUR: The proposal to bring English language teachers from Singapore to the country is a key focus of today’s Dewan Rakyat session.
According to Bernama, the Parliamentary Order of Business on the Parliament website shows that Kalam Salan (PN-Sabak Bernam) has requested the Minister of Education to outline the Ministry’s specific plans regarding this proposal, as well as steps to empower local English teachers during the Minister’s Question Time.
In the same session, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Semporna) asked the Minister of Public Works about the standard operating procedures set for contractors to ensure that the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway does not become a cause of natural disasters such as floods and landslides.
Also in focus was a question from Datuk Henry Sum Agong (GPS-Lawas) to the Minister of Home Affairs regarding the government’s efforts to define the land and maritime boundaries between Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia during the question and answer session.
Additionally, Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) requested the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to explain the impact of diesel subsidy rationalization on the prices of goods and the rising cost of living for the public.
After the question and answer session, the meeting will proceed with the presentation of seven bills for their first reading, including the Customs (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Excise (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Free Trade Zones (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024, and the Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024, which are scheduled to be presented by the Minister of Finance.
In addition, the Federal Port Declaration (Abolition) Bill 2024 and the Bintulu Port Authority (Dissolution) Bill 2024 are scheduled to be presented by the Minister of Transport.
Meanwhile, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department is expected to table a motion for Teresa Kok Suh Sim (PH-Seputeh) to replace Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) as Deputy Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee before the session resumes with the second reading of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency Bill 2024.
The Second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament will last for 15 days until this Thursday.
