KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27: Police investigations into allegations that former attorney general Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali had covered up crimes linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak have been officially classified as No Further Action (NFA), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail informed Parliament.

In a written parliamentary reply dated Tuesday, Saifuddin Nasution said the probe was conducted under Section 217 of the Penal Code, which relates to a public officer disobeying the law to shield a person from punishment or the seizure of property.

He said investigations were completed and submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers on Oct 5, 2022, after which the case was classified as NFA.

Saifuddin Nasution was responding to a question from Pang Hok Liong (PH-Labis), who sought an update on the status of the investigation.

In a separate matter, the Home Minister declined to disclose details of the investigation into the attack on the son of Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, citing concerns that public confirmation could jeopardize ongoing efforts to apprehend suspects and compromise the safety of witnesses.

“I wish to clarify that making such confirmation publicly in this Honorable House may hinder the process of apprehending the suspects and could endanger key witnesses. Therefore, the request cannot be accommodated,” he said.

He added that the ministry remains committed to ensuring justice is served without compromise and assured that any developments that can be made public without affecting the investigation would be announced through official statements by the Home Ministry and the police.

The incident involved Rafizi’s 12-year-old son, who was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya in August last year.
