PUTRAJAYA, 25 June 2025 – President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, is undertaking his first official visit to Malaysia from 24 to 25 June 2025, which will mark an important turning point in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The visit, which comes in response to Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official trip to the Kyrgyz Republic in May 2024, highlights the deepening cooperation and mutual commitment to strengthening ties between Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan.

President Zhaparov, who assumed office in January 2021, is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Minister of Foreign Affairs Zheenbek Kulubaev and other senior government officials.

On 25 June, the president was accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya. This was followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar, during which both leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, renewable and green energy, the halal industry, agricultural commodities, tourism, education, and capacity-building under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP).

The two leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global issues of mutual interest, reinforcing the shared vision for a more interconnected and collaborative future.

A significant highlight of the visit is the signing and exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in diverse sectors including tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, higher education, health, trade promotion, economic cooperation, and scientific and research collaboration. Additionally, they concluded an exchange of notes on youth and diplomatic training, as well as a letter of intent on legal cooperation.

To honor President Zhaparov and his delegation, Prime Minister Anwar hosted an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex. The Kyrgyz president also toured the Malaysian Parliament, further reflecting the warm and cordial relations between the two countries.

In 2024, the Kyrgyz Republic emerged as Malaysia’s fourth-largest trading partner among Central Asian nations, with bilateral trade amounting to RM40 million (USD8.74 million). Malaysia’s main exports to Kyrgyzstan include electrical and electronic products, palm oil and related agricultural commodities, and machinery and equipment. Meanwhile, imports from Kyrgyzstan consist mainly of chemical products, electronics, and processed foods.

This landmark visit reaffirms the strong diplomatic ties established in 1992 and signals both nations’ commitment to expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors in the years to come.
