Police station gates will close at 10 p.m. following the Ulu Tiram incident, said Saifuddin
KUALA LUMPUR: Parliament was informed that all police stations across the country have been instructed to close their doors at 10 p.m. as part of security protocols.
The decision was made, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, following the May assault deaths of two police officers at the Ulu Tiram Police Station in Johor.
Directions: The gate to the police station closes after 10 p.m. The police station, which receives complaints from the public, must be balanced with the fact that it is also a target. Thus, we strike a balance between the two needs.During Question Time, he stated, “In the Ulu Tiram event, for instance, there were two individuals fighting with the police, which is when the attack started.
He continued by saying that all of the police’s major stations, district headquarters, and patrol frequency have received extremely specific orders to review and tighten their standard operating procedures.
“We gave instructions to give information right away regarding the logistics situation at each police station, whether it’s lights, fences, and so on, and it will go through a process for us to improve,” he said.
At the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor on May 17, a man with a machete attacked two police officers, Constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24. Both officers died as a result of the attacks. A gunshot wound sustained by Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, occurred.
At first, the attacker was identified by police as a Jemaah Islamiyah member.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, however, indicated following additional inquiries that there were no connections between the attacker who also perished in the incident and the extremist group based in Southeast Asia.
Following the attack on Ulu Tiram, police stations across the country were placed on high alert.
The following day, a 32-year-old Malaysian man was taken into custody after he attempted to steal a police officer’s submachine gun at the Dato Keramat station in Penang. It is thought that the man was intoxicated.
