KUALA LUMPUR: A man who was kidnapped in a RM7 million ransom case was rescued by police in less than 48 hours during a special operation at a residential unit in I-City, Shah Alam, Selangor, early this morning.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk M. Kumar said the operation, carried out by the Bukit Aman CID in collaboration with the Bukit Aman Special Branch and the Selangor CID, also led to the arrest of six individuals.

The suspects comprise five local men and one local woman, aged between 30 and 46.

“At approximately 1.30 a.m. yesterday, police received a report from a 46-year-old local woman stating that her husband had been kidnapped and that the suspects were demanding a RM7 million ransom.

“Following the report, a special operation was launched, and the victim was successfully rescued at around 1.00 a.m. today from a residential unit in the I-City area of Shah Alam,” he said in a statement today.

Datuk Kumar added that further inspections of the suspects led to the seizure of various types of illicit drugs, several mobile phones of different brands, and multiple vehicles believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which deals with kidnapping for ransom and carries a penalty of 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction.

“In addition, investigations are also being conducted under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 against all those arrested.

“The court has granted a 10-day remand order for all six suspects under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961,” he said.

According to Datuk Kumar, investigations are ongoing to identify the involvement of other individuals, establish the motive behind the kidnapping, and determine whether the case is linked to a broader criminal syndicate.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing information to the police and assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, transparently, and without compromise.
