KUALA LUMPUR: A special task force has been formed by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) of Bukit Aman to look into and handle complaints pertaining to stranded pilgrims.

The task force’s inception, according to JSJK director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, was a proactive approach to addressing the problem.

In a statement released today, he stated, “This team will work with relevant government agencies to ensure that further actions are taken according to specific legal provisions applicable to the detected offences.”

The statement also stated that, depending on the offence committed, the police, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, and Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) have different legislation to tackle the situation of stranded pilgrims.

According to Ramli, the creation of the special task force would guarantee that grievances pertaining to stuck Haj pilgrims be resolved in a more prompt and effective manner.

The police had received a report in Negeri Sembilan about claims of stranded Haj pilgrims in Mecca, Ramli acknowledged in the same statement.

He did, however, state that preliminary inquiries revealed that TH was responsible for the case’s problem. – BERNAMA
