The police have confirmed receiving a report from former Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Ekhwan Toriman, regarding defamation and accusations made against him.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, stated that the report was lodged under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Yes, we received two reports yesterday afternoon (February 3) from the Vice-Chancellor (UKM),” he said when contacted today.

Mohd Ekhwan had announced his resignation as UKM Vice-Chancellor, effective last Sunday.

He also stated that a police report and a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would be filed in response to the defamation and accusations directed at him.

Previously, certain parties claimed that a university audit had uncovered misconduct, abuse of power, and procurement irregularities allegedly linked to Mohd Ekhwan.
