PETALING JAYA: The police will assess the need to assign police officers to guard the safety of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s parents after the family filed a report regarding alleged information on the child’s murder case being ‘leaked’.

According to FMT, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said his side would ‘assess’ the safety level of the couple, who were charged with neglect on Thursday, after initially being investigated for murder.

Earlier, Hussein confirmed, two reports were filed regarding the information leak – one by Zayn’s family and the other by the investigating officer of the case.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also advised Zayn’s family to make a police report if they feel threatened due to the spread of the content. According to him, it is the responsibility of the police to ensure their safety.

Hussein warned the public not to share any content classified under the Official Secrets Act. Such an action, he said, would interfere with the investigation and prosecution process of the suspect in court.

He also said that legal action will be taken against anyone who is found sharing content allegedly containing information on the investigation into Zayn’s murder.

Zayn, a six-year-old autistic child, was found dead in a garden area not far from his residence in Damansara Damai, Selangor, last Dec 6, a day after he was reported missing.

An autopsy found multiple injuries on his body, including self-defense injuries, and he is believed to have died of strangulation.

Last Thursday, Zayn’s father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, and his mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, pleaded not guilty to charges of neglecting a child in a manner likely to cause physical injury to him.
