MECCA: Six pilgrims died of heat stroke while performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, CNN broadcast station reported.
All six pilgrims are Jordanian citizens, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
The ministry said in a statement that it is managing the burial process and the possible repatriation of the six victims’ bodies to Jordan with the help of the Saudi Arabian authorities in Jeddah.
The news emerged as pilgrims gathered in Arafah yesterday to perform wukuf, which is one of the most important pillars of the pilgrimage.
According to the statistics of the General Authority of Saudi Arabia, there are more than 1.8 million people from all over the world performing the Hajj this year.
In the meantime, Saudi Arabia is expected to experience extreme heat during the Hajj with the current temperature reaching 48 degrees Celsius in Mecca.
