PUTRAJAYA: Reportedly, Malaysia is thinking about hiring English teachers from Singapore, however Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has refuted this.

According to the prime minister, the plan, which was intended to be a voluntary project, also aims to improve bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore and increase English competence.

“Start by listening. Occasionally, “three-minute experts” may only post (claims) on social media, and all of the facts they provide will be false.

“We are presuming that Singaporean English teachers will be appointed. In his speech on Friday, June 14, at the Madani Aspiration Gathering held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), he stated, “That is wrong.”

“I just met with Lawrence Wong, the prime minister of Singapore, and we spoke about a number of topics.

“(These included the possibility of) establishing an aid scheme from Singapore or getting volunteers, fully paid by the Singaporean government, to go to rural areas, villages and the interior of Sabah and Sarawak to teach English,” he said.

Anwar and Wong met on Wednesday, June 12, to talk about measures to improve their bilateral ties.

Anwar claimed that after attempting to bring in teachers from across the Causeway, he was chastised by several for showing disdain towards the local educators.

“This is purely to strengthen ties between our countries,” he stated.
