Perlis Malaysia Sports School Abandoned for 13 Years Expected to Be Completed by January 2027

SHAH ALAM: The construction project of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School in Bukit Chabang, Padang Besar, which has been abandoned for 13 years, is expected to be completed by January 2027, with the progress of the first phase now reaching between 85 to 90 percent.

Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said that this confidence is based on his inspection of the project’s progress today, reported by Berita Harian.

According to him, based on the current progress, the construction work for the first phase is on track to be completed within the stipulated period.

“God willing, based on my visit just now, I am confident that we can complete it. This project has two phases and the first phase can be completed by January 2027.

“Overall, the average completion progress is between 85 to 90 percent. Previously, there were several old issues including a shortage of workers and contractor problems,” he said.

He said this when met after officiating the Iltizam 2026 Convention at Dewan Mua’dzam Shah, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) today.

Also present was the Director‑General of Public Service (KPPA), Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, when commenting on allegations regarding civil servants who intend to participate in politics ahead of the elections, Shamsul Azri stressed that this group is not allowed to be involved in any political activities.

“Civil servants cannot be involved in politics. So far, there has been nothing (complaints) and we will respond when the time approaches the elections,” he said.

Previously, the media reported that Perlis Menteri Besar, Abu Bakar Hamzah informed that the Perlis Malaysia Sports School project, which had been abandoned for a long time, is expected to be completed by January 2027, with progress at that time around 60 percent.

On 27 April last year, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, via a post on Facebook, also ordered that the project, which had been abandoned since 2013, be handed over to a capable government‑linked company to ensure its construction can be completed immediately.
