KUALA LUMPUR – The Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (PEKEMA) has taken a significant step towards strengthening the national green mobility ecosystem by signing a strategic partnership with Aquateak Energy Sdn Bhd to establish a new joint venture company, SenangCas Sdn Bhd.

This initiative is expected to accelerate the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging networks across the country, in line with Malaysia’s aspirations for low-carbon mobility as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint.

PEKEMA President, Datuk Hj Mohamed Nazari Noordin, said the establishment of SenangCas is not just a commercial initiative, but also reflects PEKEMA’s strong commitment to building a comprehensive and sustainable EV ecosystem.

“Through this collaboration with Aquateak Energy, we aim for PEKEMA to become a leader in developing an EV charging network that is more efficient, smart, and user-friendly. This is our holistic step to help the country reach its target of 10,000 public EV charging stations by 2030,” he said.

He added that PEKEMA’s extensive nationwide network of Bumiputera automotive importers and traders gives the initiative a strategic advantage in terms of market reach and location accessibility.

Meanwhile, Aquateak Energy Director, Dato’ Tarmizi Jusoh, said the partnership combines Aquateak’s technical expertise in renewable energy with PEKEMA’s market strength to drive the success of this initiative.

“We are proud to collaborate with PEKEMA on this initiative. It not only supports Malaysia’s carbon neutrality goals but also directly benefits users through wider and faster access to EV charging facilities,” he said.

Key focuses of the new company, SenangCas, include the development of over 650 EV chargers at strategic locations such as city centers and major highways by the end of 2026.

“We will leverage clean energy and smart grid technology to enhance system reliability.

We also aim to provide open-access chargers compatible with various EV brands and plan to expand into the ASEAN market in the next phase,” he added.

This collaboration is expected to serve as a catalyst for the development of a more sustainable, smart, and user-friendly EV ecosystem, while also creating new business opportunities for local companies.
