Patriotic Spirit on the Move: KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Turns into Merdeka Stage

KUALA LUMPUR: A three-hour journey around the capital city turned heads last night as the iconic Hop-On Hop-Off (KL HOHO) bus, adorned with the Jalur Gemilang, transformed into a moving stage celebrating Malaysia’s independence.

The open-top double-decker, usually ferrying tourists across Kuala Lumpur’s landmarks, was converted into a “mobile stage” under the PENTARAMA MERDEKA@HOHO programme – a unique initiative by the Department of Information (JAPEN) in collaboration with Elang Wah Sdn Bhd, the operator of the KL HOHO service.

Bernama reporters joined the patriotic ride on August 16, which brought music, dance, and cultural performances onto the streets. The bus made special stops at three major hotspots, Sungei Wang, River of Life, and Pavilion KL – where performers showcased Malaysia’s spirit of unity and diversity to onlookers waving the national flag.

The initiative aims to ignite patriotic fervor among Malaysians ahead of National Day (31 August) and Malaysia Day (16 September) celebrations.
