NEW YORK, Sept 27 (VoM): Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi has called on the international community to exert real pressure on Israel to return to the negotiating table over the Gaza war, stressing that the Palestinian cause must remain the world’s foremost priority.
Addressing the 80th UN General Assembly on Saturday, Al-Busaidi described the Palestinian issue as “deeply painful and enduring,” demanding that it “take precedence in our deliberations and decisions.” He underscored that decades of conflict and occupation had produced unbearable suffering and that the time had come to end the injustice through the implementation of a two-state solution.
“The growing recognition of Palestinian statehood is the most crucial step in advancing this cause,” he said, praising the UK, France, Canada, and Australia for granting recognition over the past week.
Al-Busaidi accused Israel of ignoring international appeals and refusing serious dialogue. “Its continued use of force and disregard for reason threaten the credibility of the international system,” he warned.
He urged the global community to adopt measures against Israel’s “genocide, destruction, and illegal occupation,” including sanctions for its violations of international law. He also condemned recent Israeli attacks on Qatar, Iran, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon and expressed Oman’s solidarity with countries targeted by such strikes.
“Oman believes peace cannot be imposed by force or dictation,” Al-Busaidi stressed. “It must be built through mutual understanding and respect for international law and the legitimate rights of peoples.”
Highlighting Oman’s role as a mediator in US-Iran negotiations, the foreign minister reiterated Muscat’s commitment to promoting dialogue, peace, and regional stability.
Al-Busaidi further cautioned that the world is facing “one of the most complex and difficult periods in modern history,” marked by overlapping political, economic, and humanitarian crises. Yet, he insisted that the present moment offers a “real opportunity” to pursue international justice and collective action.
“This is the path toward realizing the aspirations of peoples for freedom, prosperity, and a just, stable, and secure future,” he concluded.
