KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has acknowledged that he personally proposed PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar as a potential candidate to succeed him as the next Selangor menteri besar.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Keluar Sekejap podcast, Amirudin said he agreed with host Khairy Jamaluddin’s suggestion that the Prime Minister’s daughter could be given the opportunity to lead Selangor’s state administration.
“I can say it’s a good formula for Nurul Izzah’s ‘landing,’ so that there is no perception or stigma related to nepotism and so on,” he explained.
Amirudin added that he had already conveyed the idea directly to Nurul Izzah.
“Honestly, I have already put it forward to (Nurul) Izzah herself. It’s up to her to take up the suggestion or not,” he said.
The revelation comes amid ongoing speculation regarding Selangor’s leadership transition. Previously, Amirudin denied rumors that he would vacate his position to make way for Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
PKR has not issued an official statement on the matter, and Nurul Izzah herself has yet to respond publicly to Amirudin’s remarks.
More developments are expected as discussions on Selangor’s political future continue.
