Police Probe Alleged Stray Bullet Injury Involving Belgian Woman in Batu Ferringhi

GEORGE TOWN: Police are investigating claims by a 67-year-old Belgian woman who alleged she was injured by a stray bullet while inside her condominium unit in Batu Ferringhi last Monday (Nov 17).

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the woman, who holds a Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa, reported that she heard a loud bang at around 5.35am before realizing she was injured.

She was treated at a private hospital and warded for a day before lodging a police report at 11.39am on Thursday (Nov 20).

“Forensics investigators found blood splatter believed to be from the victim in one of the rooms. However, no bullet or evidence of a gunshot was detected inside the home,” Azizee said in a statement on Friday (Nov 21).

According to the attending doctor, the woman sustained a laceration above her eyebrow, and the injury appeared to have been caused by a blunt object. Medical examinations confirmed the absence of any gunshot wounds.

Azizee noted that preliminary investigations revealed inconsistencies in the woman’s account of the incident. Police are now working to determine the actual cause of the injury.

The case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960 for causing injury with a weapon without lawful excuse. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
